Personalized Instruction Tailored to Every Student
Master Bunny Hawkersmith has been working for decades to help every unique student reach his or her greatest potential, no matter the obstacle Life threw before them.
Here at Bunny's Gym we get to know each and every one of our students. Your child is never just "a face in the crowd". Every student who comes through our door is unique and so our approach to teaching each and every one must also be unique. That is why we offer the following services:
- Private MMA lessons, if deemed necessary
- Work with disadvantaged and disabled children. **** It is our firm belief that nothing in life--be it physical or mental disability or material "station" in life--should ever hinder a child's ability to reach his or her full potential.
****AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN:
According to Columbia University's National Center for Children in Poverty, about 15 million children in the United States, or 21% of all children – live in families with incomes below the federal poverty threshold, a measurement that has been shown to underestimate the needs of families. With this in mind, Bunny's Gym has, from its inception, worked with disadvantaged youths through the contributions of many generous sponsors.
If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring a child, please fill out our Contact Form located here and let us know. We will get in touch with you ASAP.
An MMA Ranking System Recognized by the International Sport Karate Association
The students of Bunny's Children's MMA are provided an ISKA-recognized goal-oriented ranking system.
Bunny's MMA ranking system gives students--whether students of our Adult MMA or Children's MMA program--the same opportunity to gain levels of achievement as other styles of martial arts that use a belt ranking system. Our ranking system consists of gold bars that are sewn onto the shorts leg of the students' uniforms.
Every three months a student may test for a gold bar. After nine gold bars a student must complete a probation period determined by the student’s trainer before receiving the 10th bar that is black. Then, a student can earn nine black bars which take years in between bars rather than months to earn. The black bars represent the same levels as other martial arts' black belt degree rankings.
We Certify Other Schools!
If you are interested in your students being given the opportunity to achieve rank in an ISKA-recognized system, please contact us today by filling out the appropriate business Contact Form here. Besides giving your students goals to strive for, this can bring greater recognition to your school and prove beneficial monetarily.
The Techniques We Teach in MMA
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend himself against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique. The Gracie family, the founders of BJJ, modified judo and traditional Japanese jujutsu to create the art. It contains stand-up maneuvers, but it is most famous for its devastating ground-fighting techniques. Gaining superior positioning—so one can apply the style’s numerous chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulations on an opponent—is the key in BJJ. **
Taekwondo is the name of the martial art turned world sport developed over the course of twenty centuries in Korea and China using bare hands and feet to repel attackers. All of its activities are based on defensive spirit since Taekwondo was developed as a defense against enemy attacks. Taekwondo teaches its users to use their entire body as a weapon, and they are easily able to beat off an aggressor with hands, fists, elbows, knees, feet or any other part of their body.
Taekwondo adds a great sense of humanity to its practitioners, and promotes a sense of modesty in its students. Self-confidence makes people generous in their attitudes toward others. They can stand equally against any opponent, but their code forbids unfair assaults or unnecessary use of force. ***
Developed in Japan in the 1950s, Kickboxing is a group of stand-up sports based on kicking and punching, historically developed from Karate, Muay Thai, Khmer Boxing, and Western boxing.
Fighting is called sparring and there are two different types - full contact and semi contact. Children are only allowed to compete in semi-contact because full contact involves hitting and kicking harder. ****
